WHAT IS THE OBJECT OF YOUR FAITH?
EXODUS 20:1-8
Exodus 20: 1 And God spoke all these words,
saying: 2 “I am the LORD your God, who
brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the
house of bondage. 3 “You shall have no other
gods before Me. 4 “You shall not make for
yourself a carved image, or any likeness of
anything that is in heaven above, or that is in
the earth beneath, or that is in the water under
the earth;
5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve
them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous
God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the
children to the third and fourth generations of
those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to
thousands, to those who love Me and keep My
commandments.
7 “You shall not take the name of the LORD your
God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him
guiltless who takes His name in vain.
8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Introduction
Life has a way of confronting us with hard
questions that requires a sober state of mind to
handle it.
The queen of sheba had serious observations
based on several questions that were unsettled
in her heart.
1 Kings 10: 1 Now when the queen of Sheba heard of
the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the
LORD, she came to test him with hard questions. 2
She came to Jerusalem with a very great retinue,
with camels that bore spices, very much gold, and
precious stones; and when she came to Solomon,
she spoke with him about all that was in her heart. 3
So Solomon answered all her questions; there was
nothing so difficult for the king that he could not
explain it to her.
4 And when the queen of Sheba had seen all the
wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built, 5
the food on his table, the seating of his servants, the service of his waiters and their apparel, his cupbearers, and his entryway by which he went up to the house of the LORD, there was no more spirit in her. 6 Then she said to the king: “It was a true report which I heard in my own land about your words and your wisdom.
7 “However I did not believe the words until I
came and saw with my own eyes; and indeed
the half was not told me. Your wisdom and
prosperity exceed the fame of which I heard. 8
“Happy are your men and happy are these your
servants, who stand continually before you and
hear your wisdom!
9 “Blessed be the LORD your God, who delighted in
you, setting you on the throne of Israel! Because the
LORD has loved Israel forever, therefore He made
you king, to do justice and righteousness.” 10 Then
she gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of
gold, spices in great quantity, and precious stones.
There never again came such abundance of spices as
the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.
Few questions to consider.
1. What really makes you feel secure?
2. What’s the object of your fears or uncertainties?
3. What motivates your Christianity?
4. What drives you to pray, give, read the word, serve
God?
5. What is the object that describes your significance or gives you a sense of importance?
6. What is the source of your peace and Joy?
7. What generates your value?
The questions above if not given the right
perspective in getting answers, will always lead
us to have an imbalanced life that technically
makes us unstable.
Where ignorance is, weakness is inevitable
Ignorance therefore becomes the foundation of
your darkness and light disappears.
What do you need for you to constructively build your
life?
1. Genuinely and unashamedly increase your level of
WISDOM, KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Proverbs 24: 3 Through wisdom a house is built, And by
understanding it is established; 4 By knowledge the rooms are filled With all precious and pleasant riches.
5 A wise man is strong, Yes, a man of knowledge
increases strength; 6 For by wise counsel you will wage your own war, And in a multitude of counselors there is safety.
2. Build capacity to accommodate the variables of life.
James 1: 2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
3. Obtain help from God. 2 Chronicles 20: 17 ‘You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O
Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed;
tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you.”
Isaiah 41: 10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ 11 “Behold, all those who were incensed against you Shall be ashamed and disgraced; They shall be as nothing, And those who strive with you shall perish.
12 You shall seek them and not find them-Those who
contended with you. Those who war against you Shall be as nothing, As a nonexistent thing. 13 For I, the LORD your
God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’
4. Avoid Ostrich approach to life. Take responsibility.
1 Samuel 12: 23 “Moreover, as for me, far be it from
me that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to
pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the
right way. 24 “Only fear the LORD, and serve Him in
truth with all your heart; for consider what great
things He has done for you. 25 “But if you still do
wickedly, you shall be swept away, both you and your
king.”
5. Allow God to help you walk in Humility James 4: 6 But
He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, And a
haughty spirit before a fall.
6. Be determined to walk in love. John 13: 34 “A new
commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as
I have loved you, that you also love one another.
35 “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
