Prayer: A Study and Practical Application in Communing with God
B. The Power of Prayer
Prayer is not a futile exercise or simply a personal devotional choice; it is a means to bring Heaven to earth, to see the will of God realized in the affairs of men, and to truly experience and connect with the present-day power and ministry of Jesus Christ, our
Great High Priest & Intercessor.
i. Our Father God is a God of Power and it is His expressed desire that we, His children, are transformed by His power (John 1:12, Zechariah 4:6; Romans 1:16, 1 Peter 1:5), that we experience the blessings of His power flowing through our lives and that same power being made manifest to others (John 14:12, 2
Corinthians 4:7, Romans 8:18-19; 2 Corinthians 12:9; Psalms 68:35)—prayer is a primary means by which this is accomplished…it is through prayer or in connection with prayer that we most often experience the power of God and God in power!
ii. Repentance & Release (Salvation & Rescue) – Jonah 2:1-9 iii. Baptism of the Holy Spirit – Acts 19:1-6 iv. Supernatural Intervention & Deliverance – Acts 12:5, 16 v. Healing—Connected to Calling/Volition/Purpose – 2 Kings 20:6 vi. Revelation & Relationship – Exodus 33:19-19 vii. __________________________________________________________________

Homework:
1. Identify one area in your personal life (or in the life of someone you are called to pray for) where an immediate need, outcome, or matter at hand is dependent upon the power of God—pray specifically over this situation and seek God for His power (see 2 Chronicles 14:11). 2. Keep a prayer log this week and identify the type of prayers that you pray or the reasons why you pray this week.

Week 2 – Power Verses
John 1:12, But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Zechariah 4:6, Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
Romans 1:16, For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of
God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the
Greek.
1 Peter 1:5, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
John 14:12, Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
2 Corinthians 4:7, But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
Romans 8:18-19, For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of
God.
2 Corinthians 12:9, And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Psalm 68:35, O God, thou art terrible out of thy holy places: the God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God.
