Processing Your Prophecy
Instructor: Scott Woodard
The Purpose of Prophecy –
The “Purpose of Prophecy” is to draw you into the direction that God has already laid in your own heart. It confirms, directs and redirects, envisions and re-envisions the believer of their purpose, calling, and destiny.
A.) The Spirit Gives Prophecy
1 Cor 12:1-11 Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.
The Spirit manifests himself as He wills in individual lives – the manifestations are HIM! He Manifest Jesus Nature, emotions, character, thoughts, and his will. Prophecy always points you to Jesus and his redemptive work in you.
B.) Prophecy is for Correction, Direction, and Confirmation
1 Cor 14:1-3 Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries. 3 But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.
The Spirit and the- Word Agree!
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
Prophecy is like a mile marker or billboard for your destination off-ramp. (Example: 90 Miles, 50 Miles, 12 Miles, Next Right)
Don’t miss or miss read your Billboards or you will miss your next day in God and prolong your journey in the Kingdom.
C.) Prophecy is for a sign to Believers
1 Cor So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophecy is for a sign, not to unbelievers but to those who believe.
1 Corinthians 14:23-25, 23 Therefore if the whole church assembles together and all speak in tongues, and ungifted men or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are mad? 24 But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an ungifted man enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all; 25 the secrets of his heart are disclosed; and so he will fall on his face and worship God, declaring that God is certainly among you.
Prophecy confirms a believer and builds faith in them that God is up on their Lives.
Prophecy undresses the hearts of men, convicts with power to change!
The Delivery of Prophecy
A.)Given By the Holy Spirit
2 Peter for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
Romans 12:6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith;
Prophecy comes to you as the Holy Spirit opens up himself and His insight to you so that you speak as one having the oracles of God!
If a man has the Gift of Prophecy, he prophesies according to the measure of their faith. (One man has faith for 1-person; another has faith for 500-people.) This is why you can Line people up and prophecy what seems at will. It is according to you faith and ability to hear God’s voice and direction for another!
B. You Must Understand Prophecy comes through many different Channels!
(Individual Prophetic words, Personal Prophetic words to yourself, and Corporate Prophetic words)
Spoken Prophetic Word - (By You or Someone else)
2. The Written prophetic Word - (Book, Letter, Poem)
3. Prophetic Song – (Sung to you or through you inspired by the Lord)
4. Mental Pictures – (Images dropped into your spirit by the lord)
5. Demonstrated Prophetic Words – (Illustrated words & pictures from the Lord to you or by you)
6. Dreams in the Night – (Words of direction and insight given in your dreams)
C.) Prophetic Words are delivered through many different vessels
This greatly determines what Kind of word, and to what depth and accuracy the word you receive will be.
The Vessels of Prophecy are:
Prophet or Prophetess – (One called into the Governmental Office of the Prophetic.)
Believers or Disciples – (By the Gift or Spirit of Prophecy; activated through Faith.)
Backslider – ( Inspired unction of the Holy Spirit often without their knowledge)
Pagan – ( Inspired unction of the Holy Spirit without their knowledge.)
D.) Prophecy Comes By:
Emotions (often you will have the emotions of God or feel the emotions of another)
Mental Pictures – (Flashes of an Image within your spirit)
Direct Word – (You get a word or a phrase inside your spirit.)
Feelings
Sayings in Your Spirit
Impressions in your Spirit
Songs or Riddles
1 Corinthians 14:29-32, 29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment.
30 But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, the first one must keep silent.
31 For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted;
32 and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets;
Everyone can prophecy through the spirit, (the testimony of Jesus). Prophecy never over powers you or causes you to be out of Control. It is Subject or under the control of the one who received it.
One needs to be able to discern if the word is for information to the recipient, or if it is in fact a word for the one, in whom the word is about.
Translating Your Prophecy
A.) Use your Leaders for Oversight
Hebrews Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you.
Words are for the People on the other side of your life – NOT just for you!
Example: You are called to the Nations, You are a Young Leader; The word is not really about you but rather those you are called to serve.(You must process your words according to understanding or you heart will deceive you.)
Most Prophetic Words: are to let you know what God is making in you.–Usually a prophetic word is your Bus Ticket to send you or an individual to the wilderness process for the making. This is a very important process to realize because most people try to become their words themselves outside of the provisions of the spirit and his dealings.
Ask yourself, is the word I have received a Confirming, Corrective or a Directive Word?
This will determine the means of delivery many times and often the timing.
This is Important to understand - (The Sin of the Prophet: Right Word, Wrong Timing)
Ask yourself, what is the timing of the word- (Past, Present, or Future tense)?
Find out what the mental pictures, metaphors, or parables you are receiving man according to the scripture and Life.
Example: I see the lord placing you on a anvil and the hammer of God coming quickly down upon your life.
How does the word I have received relate to the other words I know that God has given me in the past? - (Timing and Response is everything.)
Example: A word about marriage.
Judging and Living Out Your Prophecy
Matthew “ BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED.
Using God’s Refrigerator
If you get a word that does not make since to you, place the word back into Gods refrigerator. -
(Give the word back to God and ask him to confirm the word again by another voice or means if it is really Him.) – This is important because often is speaking to you God-Image with in you that often times through life and circumstances we do not have a right perspective towards any longer. God speaks to what you are and are becoming in the spirit and we often judge our words through our past lives and current conditions. - (We judge often by old wounds, fears, hopes, dreams and ideas of our image and future that are out of perspective)
Don’t move or act on a word or direction without a prompting and confirmation from God in your heart (Peace) and blessing from leadership that is giving account for helping lead you.
You cannot make your own words come to past! WAIT!…….WAIT!……WAIT!
You cannot decide the timing that your words will happen in – you discover it.
Pray about your words and submit them to be judges by leaders always, Wise council!
B.) Always judge your words by the written word of God
All prophetic-words must line up within the context of written scripture! Any voice that violates these boundaries IS NOT GOD!
