Healing the Broken Hearted

Part 3 — Wounds (Wednesday, August 12, 2026)

Main Points

How a wound becomes infected

Jesus calls Satan Beelzebub, “lord of the flies”; flies feed on and lay eggs in open, festering wounds

An untended wound doesn’t stay still; left unaddressed, hurt can open a door to the demonic

From hurt to bondage (the progression)

1. Hurt: an injury, real or perceived

2. Offense: a sharp reaction of hurt or anger (“offenses will come”); don’t let the sun go down on it

3. Resentment: a long-lasting, festering feeling

4. Bitterness: earthly and demonic; judgments, walls, self-justification

5. Bondage: distrust, suspicion, walls, suppressed emotions, victimhood, depression, rage, fear and control

How do I heal?

Ask: did someone sin against me? Who exactly? What was the sin, or was it only perceived?

If it was a brother or sister in Christ: go to them (Matthew 18) and be kind and tender-hearted

If it was an unbeliever: the first step is still forgiveness

What forgiveness is and is not

It is the nature of Christ, releasing heaven on earth

It takes only one person; you release your right to vengeance

It entrusts justice to God

It is a decision that may need renewing in layers

It is NOT reconciliation, which takes two people; you can only fully reconcile with the wise

After forgiveness: walking it out

Choose sonship or daughterhood over victimhood (God works all things for good)

Choose the Word over emotions; put on the garment of praise

Stop recirculating thoughts; take every thought captive

Give no place to the devil: no gossip, slander or walls

Spend time with Jesus, the Shepherd and Overseer of your soul

Self-inflicted wounds

Disobedience, ungodly relationships and soul ties, perceived slights, unrealistic expectations

Healing: repent to God and to the people affected, end the ungodly relationship, and invite God to heal

How do I know I’m healed?

No more triggers (triggers are red flags to bring to God)

Peace in your soul

Trusting God instead of controlling

Being able to pray for the person with a pure heart

Pastoral word and Q&A

The church is a family in a perfection process; unhealed wounds will tear it apart like natural families

Distinguish real trauma from perceived or “church” hurt; let God use an imperfect world to form Christ in you

Offense (skandalon) is the enemy’s bait

Processing without gossip: check your motive and talk only to people who are part of the solution (pastors, life group leaders)

Suppressed wounds: ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what you can’t see

Triggers vs. awareness: awareness is wisdom without the emotional charge; discernment out of self-protection is suspicion

Reflection / Homework

Walk one hurt through the progression: where is it now (offense, resentment, bitterness, bondage)?

Name who sinned against you and what the sin was, then choose to forgive and release them to God

Ask the Holy Spirit about self-inflicted wounds and soul ties, then repent and invite healing
