Healing the Broken Hearted

Part 2 — Recap & Q&A (Wednesday, July 8, 2026)

Main Points

Recap of Part 1

Healing is God’s idea; guard the heart because everything flows from it

Three foundations: right image of God, healed self-image, the finished work of Jesus

Four open doors: personal sin, occult, generational influences, wounds

Generational influences: identify, renounce, repent, appropriate the cross (David’s and Abraham’s family patterns)

Q&A: generational questions

Step-families: follow the lines of covenant and authority; you can come under a step-parent’s patterns, or a godly step-parent can bring restoration

Not forgiving yourself affects your line; forgiveness is received, not earned (rejecting it is rejecting the cross)

If you don’t know your biological family: the Holy Spirit leads into all truth; renounce whatever passed through your line and let Him remove the “fingerprints”

Shame keeps us hiding; bring things into the light and confess to a trusted shepherd

Don’t go “dumpster diving”: God deals with things in layers, little by little; be hardest on what affects others

Guarding the heart: let in what is holy, keep out offense, bitterness and unforgiveness

Preview of wounds

Wounds: sins against us, or unmet expectations, that leave unhealed emotions, painful memories and unhealthy patterns

Picture: an untreated wound becomes infected and attracts flies (the demonic); deliverance flicks the fly off, healing cleans the wound

Q&A: forgiveness

Abuse is never the victim’s fault; forgiving comes by finding grace in Christ

God does not put people in abuse to teach them; He meets them in it and redeems

Forgiveness does not mean the wrong was okay, and it does not require reconciliation; boundaries may be needed

When laws are broken (sexual or physical abuse, neglect), go to the authorities

Forgiveness is a decision, not an emotion: “I reject the right of whatever lives in you to live in me”

Lingering triggers and insecurities: notice them, refuse to act from them, and ask God (your healer) to heal and speak identity
