Main Points

Healing is God’s idea

Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted, set captives free and destroy the works of the devil

“Sozo” (salvation) means saved, healed and delivered: it’s a package deal

We either embrace healing or reach for a fig leaf to hide

Why healing matters: guard your heart

Everything you do flows from the heart (thoughts, emotions, desires, motives)

Heal the heart first, then learn to guard it

Three barriers to healing (handouts)

Our image of God: see Him as He truly is (merciful, gracious, long-suffering)

Our self-image: who God says we are (accepted, complete, free from condemnation)

The finished work of Christ: total victory over darkness; the only authority darkness has is what we give it through agreement

How the enemy gains access

He counts on two things: our ignorance and our unbelief

All access comes through sin; when we sin we trade away our authority

Four main doors: personal sin, wounds (sins against us), occult exposure/involvement, generational sins

Generational influences

Definition: the cumulative effect of what our ancestors did, believed or practiced, and the residual consequences passed down

We inherit physical traits, hereditary predispositions and spiritual inheritance (positive and negative)

Spiritual laws at work

Blessings and curses

Sowing and reaping

Multiplication: what’s sown grows in later generations

Binding and loosing

Real-life examples and statistics (Margaret’s six-generation pattern; divorce/adultery patterns)

Biblical examples

Adam and Eve; Cain vs. Abel: each generation still chooses

David and Bathsheba → Amnon/Tamar → Solomon’s lust; David: “in sin did my mother conceive me”

Abraham → Isaac → Jacob → Jacob’s sons: a family pattern of lying

Only Jesus breaks the curse

Christ became a curse for us

“It ends with me”: we choose whether the pattern carries on to our children

Three steps to freedom

Identify: map a genogram to the 4th generation and use the checklists (spiritual problems, rejection/self-worth, sinful behavior patterns, health patterns)

Renounce and repent: come out of agreement; repent for ancestors’ sins and our own

Appropriate the finished work of the cross: know it, believe it, declare it

Q&A highlights

If it doesn’t look like God (not fruit of the Spirit), it isn’t from God

Honor parents while getting free: “look back with mercy”; forgiveness doesn’t validate the wrong

After breaking a curse, stay a watchman: pray over and instruct your children

Nehemiah’s model: weep, fast, pray, and confess “we have sinned”, including the father’s house
