What Exactly Was I Saved From?

Curse of Sin/Death – Hell/Wrath of God

Is the curse of sin and death really in me?

A. Man has a natural desire to _____________and to _________ God’s principals for living.

Look out for # 1. - Do your own thing.

  • If it feels good do it - regardless of what God says about it.
  • It’s my life and I’ll do what I please.

B. The Bible calls this attitude: _________.

All of us, like sheep have gone astray and each of us has turned to his own way. -Isaiah 53:6

If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. -1 John 1:8

C. Sin breaks _____ close relationship with God and causes _____ to turn His face from us.

But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God. And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear. -Isaiah 59:2

For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. -Romans 3:28

D. When our relationship with God is not right, it causes problems in _______ area of our

lives and we often try many different ways of __________ with our problems.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end is the way of death. -Proverbs 16:25

E. The ways that _____ would choose apart from God’s way always lead to death.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord

–Romans 6:28

F. God commanded Adam and Eve to eat from any tree in the garden except for the tree of

the knowledge of good and evil. He said that if they would eat of that tree, they would

surely die. When Adam and Eve ______________ God, the curse of sin and death

entered into the world and mankind.

Cursed is the ground because of you. -Genesis 3:1

Now you are under a curse. -Genesis 4:11

Cursed is the man who does not heed the words of this command. -Jeremiah 11:2

Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, to perform them. Galatians 3:10

G. Because God is a holy God, He __________ tolerate sin. Sin or sinful man __________

enter into God’s presence. God expects His commandments to be obeyed and followed

completely. Sin and death entered in because of Adams disobedience and God had to

judge them by sending them out of His presence. They brought the curse on themselves

and because of that, we all are under the same curse.

And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formally walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience -Ephesians 2:1, 2

Among them, we too all formally lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and the mind, and were by nature, children of wrath, even as the rest. –Ephesians 2:3

H. Is hell real and would God really send me there? The Bible is very specific when it

speaks about hell. Let’s first find out what hell is like. There are two descriptions of hell

in the Bible: One is of a _____________ __________. Jesus often used the word Gehenna

to describe hell. Gehenna was the refuse dump outside of Jerusalem that was always on fire.

Jesus describes hell as a place of worms, maggots, fire and trouble. An image of fire and

perpetual burning, where those that are sent there are full of _____________ and

_____________.

To be cast into hell, into unquenchable fire, where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched. -Mark 9:43-48

In Hades, he lifted up his eyes, being in torment and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried out and said, “Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.” -Luke 16:23,24

I. Jesus also speaks of hell as being outer______________… weeping and gnashing of teeth

They will be cast out into outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. -Matthew 8:12

J. Here is the image of terrible loneliness, ________________ from God and man. They

will be cast into the blackest blackness of eternity, with nobody to turn to or talk to,

constantly alone. They will suffer from the remorse of knowing that they turned down

the opportunity to come to heaven and be with God forever. The Bible also speaks of an

eternal fire reserved only for the Devil and his angels. Humans were never intended to

go to hell and yet it speaks of those who have chosen to __________ God, following the

Devil into his everlasting place of torment.

Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels. -Matthew 25:41

K. There will be no exit from hell, no escape, no way out, no second chance and there will

ever be an end to it.

According to the Bible: _____________________________!!!

L. Are demons real, and can / or do they have _______________ in my life? What is a

demon? A demon is a fallen angel. Lucifer was an archangel, who the Bible says, covered

the glory of God. He was the worship leader in heaven and _________________ was

created in his body to give _________ and _________ to God. He became very ________

and wanted to be like God and sinned. When Satan rebelled against God, he took a large

number of the angels with him in his rebellion.

How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations. You said in your heart, ÿ I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High. But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit. Those who see you, stare at you, they ponder your fate. Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble, the man who made the world a desert, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home? -Isaiah 14:12-17

This is what the Sovereign Lord says, You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God, every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz and emerald, chrysolite, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created, they were prepared.

-Ezekiel 28:12, 13

M. The words: settings and mountings can also be translated, timbrels and pipes, which are

words for percussion and wind instruments. Everything for worship was built into his

body, that he might __________ the glory of God. When he fell, not only did he bring

some angels with him, but he also brought the ability to lead people astray in worship.

Satan perverted music and is now using people, who do not follow Gods ways, to

worship him.

You were anointed as guardian cherub to cover, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. You were blameless in all your ways from the day you were created, until wickedness was found in you. Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence and you sinned so I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones. Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.

Ezekiel 28:14-17

Then another sign appeared in heaven, an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his head. His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to earth. Revelation 12:3,4

N. When they rebelled, God cast them out of heaven to earth, where they are now demons

and where they used to be able to _______ with God in righteousness, they now are

going to the ________ of hatred, bitterness and perversion. Demons can and will

torment people, possess them and lie to them, leading them away from God.

Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit -Mark 1:23

Throwing him into convulsions, the unclean spirit cried with a loud voice and came out of him.

-Mark 1:26

When He got out of the boat, immediately a man from the tombs with an unclean spirit met Him and he dwelt among the tombs. And no one was able to bind him anymore, even with chains, because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart and the shackles broken in pieces and no one was strong enough to subdue him. Constantly, night and day, he was screaming among the tombs and in the mountains, and gnashing himself with stones. -Mark 5:2-5

Teacher I have brought You my son, possessed with an evil spirit which makes him mute, and whenever it seizes him, it slams him to the ground and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth, and stiffens out. -Mark 9:17, 18

O. Although lust, homosexuality, drunkenness, gluttony and witchcraft are evident

expressions of the sinful nature, they can also be ________________ of demonic activity

in the lives of people. Now just as there are angels and archangels, there are also

demons and higher demons. They are called principalities and rulers and powers.

According to the Bible there are these kinds of demons, (principalities) that are over

specific cities or regions. They cause havoc in these areas and are harder to bring down.

There is a war going on in the heavenly realms and God has _________ us to help fight

the battles.

Put on the full armor of God, so that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places -Ephesians 6:11,12

P. The Bible talks about God sending a messenger to Daniel and yet it took ___________

for the angel to get there because the prince of Persia was withstanding him, and

because Daniel had ______ and prayed for three weeks, God used those prayers to help

Michael, one of the chief princes (archangels) to come and help the messenger to get the

message to Daniel. The Bible speaks about demons taking control over people, but it also

says that we have power over all demons if we are in Christ.

He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world -1John 4:4

The seventy-two returned with joy saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your Name. And He said I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lighting. Behold I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven. -Luke 10:17-20

Q. Jesus was _______________ in the Holy Spirit with the fact that the Father had revealed

His authority to them. The saying “I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lighting,” was, (I believe) when they were casting Satan and demons out of people, they were

casting them out of the mind-sets of people. Where in their minds, Satan was exalted in

the high places of mans thoughts. When we have Jesus in our hearts and His Spirit living through us, we can walk a victorious, overcoming life.

Remember that Satan was the worship leader in heaven and that in his body were created all the instruments to cover the glory of God, but now that he has fallen, his greatest goal is to have worship given to him.

Now we, as the body of Christ have _____________ in us together to bring complete

and glorious worship to God. We have a ________________ as the body to fit into our

part and to cover the Lord with praise and worship. This is one of our most effective

___________ against the devil. If we give all the praise and glory to Jesus Christ, to

whom all honor belongs, the devil who wants that praise for himself will flee. Worship is

not just singing songs on Sunday morning, but it is a consecrated, submitted, covenant

life to God and the body of Christ. It is not a worship service, but a service of ____________.

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. –Romans 12:1
