Prophetic Equipping | January 2025
Receiving and ministering prophetic words

I. How do you know when God is giving you a word?
A. Key Verse: John 10:27 – “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
1. What exactly is a prophetic word?
a) As stated in this discussion, it is when the Holy Spirit prompts, reveals, or speaks to us about something or someone that we realize is not originating in our human spirit but coming from God Himself.
b) A sense of the weight of conviction often falls upon a person, sets upon them, and compels them to obey God by taking the risk to o er what
God is telling them to say or do.
c) There is often information about the future, the present, or the past in someone’s life or the life of a group. That information is not given just to be stated, but there is always a corresponding purpose for the light given.
(1) This is where submitting words is essential. Sometimes, leaders or others will interpret the word and understand its purpose.
B. Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 14:3 – “But he who prophesies speaks edi cation and exhortation and comfort to men.”
1. Prophetic words are messages from God that are given to encourage, guide, and edify.
2. Sometimes, it is speaking to someone with supernatural knowledge from the Spirit about their situation or circumstances.
3. This is not to be confused with human discernment or opinions we feel are
“spiritual” and add the “God said” element to give it weight or make something convincing.
4. This is also not “prophetic well-wishing” when we o er people spiritual thoughts or feelings through prophetic ministry.

C. Key Verse: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is inspired by God and pro table for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
1. Prophetic words do not contradict the Scripture.
a) Not only the content of scripture itself but also its nature and essence.
b) It’s not based on wrong doctrine or over-focused winds of doctrine.

II. How to give a word from God.
A. Key Verse: Philippians 2:3-4 – “Let nothing be done through sel sh ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.”
B. This is where a lot of problems occur.
1. When to say, “Thus says the Lord!”
a) This is usually the territory for Prophets and Prophetic O ce.
(1) This usually carries governmental weight.
b) However, there are times when we all feel a great press and fear of God set up on us, and we are compelled to declare, “Thus says the Lord!” c) These moments are often about declaring future events or executing
God’s will.
(1) We should submit things like this.
C. Key Verse: Ephesians 4:2 – “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.“Being wise in o ering prophetic words.
1. It is good to work with people by giving words instead of forcing them upon them without having a moment to relate to or understand what is happening.
a) It is wise to approach this humbly, “Can I share something with you.”?
b) As we share things with people, it is good to stop the discourse and ask, “Does any of this mean anything to you?”
D. Work with leaders and a team if possible.
1. Sharing what you have received with others in the atmosphere of your relational-spiritual life clari es and con rms.
2. This can also be a source of wisdom for timing.

III. How to submit a word from God.
A. Key Verse: Hebrews 13:17: “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unpro table for you.”
1. Look for a place to submit them!
2. While prophets make this look easier than sometimes, we always submit words.
B. The practice of not submitting prophetic-spiritual words before giving them is a bad practice.
1. The “I’m too anointed to submit my prophetic content” is dangerous, and we should not work with people like that.
a) The more submitted, the better.
C. The leaders hearing prophetic content will usually also have to work out of it.
Making them a part of the process will strengthen the message and how it is received.
D. Sometimes, we have to wait for the timing of supernatural ministry.
1. It is good to work with those leading meetings publicly or privately so they can open the door at the right moment to allow us to share what God has given us.

IV. The ministry of impartation in prophetic ministry.
A. Key Verse: Mark 16:17-18 “And these signs will follow those who believe: In
My name, they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues… they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
1. We often want to touch people when ministering to them since there is usually an impartation of the word beyond the information in the word.
2. For example, when God shows us the pain in someone’s history, or we see a physical in rmity, some powerful encounter usually releases the change intended for the word to be given.
a) God often reveals to heal.

B. When moving into laying on of hands or attempting to release power upon or into people, we need to be wise.
1. The more we rough people up, the more they get power!
2. We need to be careful about what parts of the body we lay hands on.
a) Do not set your hands on the heads of leaders.
b) Be careful how physically close we get to people and what parts of the body we touch.
(1) Especially members of the opposite gender.

V. Giving words in a group meeting.
A. Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 14:29-33: “Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment. But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, the rst one must keep silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted, and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets; for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.”
B. Sometimes, when we are in large gatherings or meetings, there is a nearness of
God and moments of inspired faith where we hear or see things in the realm of the Spirit.
1. We need to discern when a word in a meeting is for us personally or for the gathering.
a) By bringing the content to the leaders, they can interpret the purpose of the light given and then know how to direct it.
2. In larger meetings, the timing and sequence of spiritual content impact the meeting.
C. Be clear and concise. It is not helpful to say something too long or to be unclear about how it is being said.
1. When working with skilled leaders, they can help us clarify and make things more clear by focusing on the meat of the message.
