HEALING THE BROKEN HEARTED
Jesus came to heal broken hearts, to set the captives free, and to destroy the works of the devil.
Psalm 147:3 (NKJV)
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Isaiah 61:1; LUKE 4 (NKJV)
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound.
1 John 3:8b (NKJV)
For this purpose the Son of God was manifested to destroy the works of the devil.
Speaker notes:
Slide and scripture
Healing is God’s idea
He knew we would need it
Salvation Greek word SOZO
-Saved
-Healed
-Delivered
We have an invitation to come boldly before the throne of grace
We either embrace the healing process or
reach for a fig leaf to hide behind
Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted (Luke 4:18) and to destroy the works of the devil in the life of every believer. He does not fail in His mission, but invites us to participate in a healing journey of transformation (Romans 12:2), discovering that ALL THINGS can become new in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17-19).
Jesus came to “set at liberty those who are oppressed” (Luke 4:18)—it is the Lord who allows us to deal with what is behind every door of oppression and to shut them effectively (Revelation 3:7-8).
Slide 3
WHY IS HEALING IMPORTANT?
To become human as God intended, our hearts must be made whole…and this includes the healing of wounds.
Speaker notes:
Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
In biblical terms, the “heart” represent your innermost being –
your thoughts, emotions, desires, and motivations.
It is the control center of your life.
It shapes your life – your every action, decision, and attitude originates in your heart.
To become human as God intended, our hearts | our true selves MUST be made whole.

INVISIBLE (SOUL) WOUNDS
Invisible, yet deep wounds can occur in our hearts and souls when others sin against us or when we are a part of hurtful situations.
Wounding may result when harmful things are done to us and also when good/right things are not done for us.
The impact of such hurt can be traumatic, lasting far beyond the initial event and negatively effecting our emotions, identity, behavior patterns, thoughts, beliefs, and memories.

WOUNDS
Speaker notes:
Deep wounds that occur inside of us as a result of past experiences where we have been sinned against.
This includes both things that were done and things that were not done
Leaving us disappointed
Like a child waiting for a parent to show up for their birthday or to pick them up…
Wound is not physical
But we know they are there when we get triggered.
Patterns that we and others notice in how we respond to life.
WHY DO I DO THAT?
Things accepted as personality/ identity are actually a pain response from a childhood wound

Slide 6
UNHEALED WOUNDS CAN CAUSE
MORE PAIN
LOW SELF-WORTH
DEPRESSION
FEAR
FEELINGS OF REJECTION
ANXIETY
Additionally, a wounded person can cause self-injury and exacerbate their pain through SINFUL RESPONSES to their initial hurt: anger/rage, revenge, bitterness, or unforgiveness (Eph 4:26, Gal 5:20, Heb 12:15, Matt 5:34-35).

Healing of Wounds is Critical
Identity
Freedom
Testimony
Purpose
Calling
Galatians 5:1 – For freedom, Christ set us free, Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery (i.e., yoke of bondage).
Speaker notes:
HEALING IS NECESSARY
To be free
Untreated wound = infection
We become Stuck!!!
IDENTITY:
Know God - Know ourselves - Know purpose / We become UNSTOPPABLE!!!
THAT’S WHY THE ENEMY HITS HARD AND EARLY…
He wants us to believe lies and take on every other identity
Not just getting out of things BUT getting into our destiny

PERVASIVE EFFECTS OF SOUL WOUNDS
Physical Body
Behavior
Mind
Emotions
Spiritual
Vulnerability
Sinful Responses
Open Doors…
Demonic spirits…
Further Bondage
Speaker notes:
OVERALL EFFECTS OF SOUL WOUNDS –
Affect EVERY PART OF US
PHYSICAL- root cause of physical sickness. 80% of problems of Mayo Clinic’s visitors are psychosomatic, not physical.
Psychosomatic – real physical sickness or symptoms that are caused or significantly worsened by mental factors such as stress, emotional distress etc
BEHAVIOR - patterns that become part of our personal culture
MIND - Painful memories/ flashbacks, ungodly beliefs that frame worldview.
Every wound results in a lie!!
Aim is to destroy our self image and the true image of God.
EMOTIONS – speaks to emotional maturity & safety.
Either suppressed emotions (so never learn how to respond)
or out of control emotions/ outbursts etc
SPIRITUAL -Turning away from God
We often blame God for the sins of men
ADDITIONALLY: Wounds make us vulnerable and open doors to evil spirits who like to attach to these wounds and cause more issues and bondage.
We may initially need deliverance to be free of demonic influence, but require complete healing and longterm maintenance to stay free and hold on to healing
DELIVERANCE: Will have some time for deliverance at the end. We can help with stubborn spirits; All the work is in revoking legal rights and lessening grip
FORGIVENESS & RELEASE is key: Most demonic influences will leave voluntarily once you forgive; spiritual authority may be needed to remove the rest.

EFFECTS OF SOUL WOUNDS
HURT PEOPLE HURT PEOPLE
Hiding behind masks/ Living in a healthy relational dynamic
Fear|Shame|Control cycle
Relationship with God affected – disappointment
Speaker notes:
EFFECTS OF SOUL WOUNDS cont.
Hurt people hurt people –
Walk around in pain = easily triggered.
Emotional baggage means that we relate out of the lens of our wound.
It shapes us.
MASKS - We hide, wear masks
FEAR|SHAME|CONTROL cycle
FEAR
Vicious loop we get stuck in
Fear around anxiety of being found out or failing
Triggering our nervous system into an anxious state
SHAME
Any small mistake that is exposed causes this massive shame spiral
Essentially emphasizes the lie from the wound that
You are broken
You can’t do anything right
You are unlovable etc
CONTROL
May numb self to escape pain
Start to control so as to never feel pain again
Control environment and people around
Manifests as perfectionism, manipulation, anger etc to maintain a flawless image
Control inevitably fails
Relationships are damaged
Deeper fear/ shame
Cycle continues..
We get STUCK
AFFECTS OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
Wounds can lead to disappointment with God affecting out relationship with Him
Slide 12
Understand Your Family of Origin
The family unit that you grew up in is your family of origin.
Often includes parents and siblings, but also is inclusive of other relatives or people who lived with you during part of your childhood.
We are strongly influenced in who we become by those who raised us and the significant others within that family group.
Speaker notes:
Family of Origin includes: Natural born, nuclear family / Grandparents / Uncles/ Aunts – Adopted – Foster system
THINGS WE LEARN FROM OUR FAMILY OF ORIGIN
***INTRO TRACK HOMEWORK HANDOUT (Sit with Holy Spirit)
How to communicate – do we struggle to be honest, transparent & vulnerable because culture didn’t allow it; do we hide thing/sweep under the rug or open honest communication; Do we resolve conflict or do we hold grudges?
**Insert my story**
Whether we are seen or not heard
Whether we are valued
How did we handle stress – angry outbursts? and tension?
How to relate to one another – did you grow up in a highly critical environment? – Are you critical of others now?
What did marriage looks like?
Who God is and how to love Him?
How to clean a house? – obsessively clean = type A OCD clean or went other way and slob!
Finance – Did you grow up poor? = now you hoard things/ inner vows of I’ll never be poor so now your life is about pursuing wealth OR
Grew up wealthy? – wasteful so now no responsibility in managing finances OR
Healthy stewardship of resources in home life? – taught to give, save, steward resources well.
ALL THESE BECOME EMBEDDED IN OUR PSYCHE & SHAPE US.
Study your parents
Look for similarities/ where things came from
Hold it up to the nature of God
Respectfully judge it
Come out of agreement with it (it’s not just who you are!)
Repent
Ask the Lord to heal you and change you into His nature
GOAL: We are partnering with the HS that Christ be formed in us
Slide 13
COMMON SOUL WOUNDS
Father wounds and Mother wounds are those inflicted by our primary caregivers and/or biological parents.
Healing of such parental wounding often corrects how we see God as Heavenly Father and how we receive Him as El Shaddai (Gen 17:1, the God who is strong enough to help and sensitive enough to care), our Ultimate Caregiver.
Speaker notes:
COMMON SOUL WOUNDS
Father/ Mother wound = Primary caregiver wounds
More vulnerable as kids
Wounds follow us through adulthood
Shapes our view of ourselves, others and more importantly, God.
Various degrees
May be hard and emotional for some as we go through this
May be pulling off scabs
Pushing on walls put up for self protection
Feel free to do whatever you need to do to walk through this at your own pace…
Slide 14
Father Wounds
Fathers are meant to provide, protect, and give identity.
What happens when a father is negligent, absent, or abusive?
Father wounds can produce a lack of security, identity, or provision, which may allow entrance of an orphan spirit or normalized feelings of rejection and abandonment.

Speaker notes:
The job of a father is to provide, protect (security), and give identity.
This is the job of a husband and males in general
Deficiencies in any of these areas can cause wounds;
degree of deficiency = degree of wounding
Identity -
Fathers sit the family down and set the vision
“We are the Smiths, we love God etc”
We love each other
We work hard
We are honest etc
It grounds us as a part of something!!
Lack of = Purposelessness or a floating feeling through life; look for validation, to belong
Protection – Father protects, keeps safe, provides strength, defends etc
Lack of = fear;
walls to protect self
Self preservation, lack of trust, difficulty forming intimate relationships
OR
no boundaries/ wide open as never learned healthy security.
Provision – Fathers provide for the well being of the home – physically but also emotionally, mentally etc
Our sense of wellbeing comes from here.
Never feeling loved because no one said I love you
Leaves you looking for love, even when its unhealthy
Some same sex attraction
Wanting to be around men.
“To prove that I can be loved by a man”
Lack of = Creates insecurities –
extremely clingy, blame everyone for lack of success
OR
very independent, a go getter
Cheered on in this world
But in the Kingdom, dependence on God is the way
Rejection/ Orphan Spirit – will dive into next month;
Deeper level of bondage

Need for approval
Want to feel like we matter
Perfectionism
Especially if grew up with a critical father
Nothing was good enough
Now = very difficult on yourself, and others
Can lower self esteem and end up people pleasing
Trying to become like we think people want us to become.
Say YES to everything
No clear boundaries
*Perfectionism is about what people think about you
Excellence is about what God thinks about you
May look similar but very different
One is operating from rest and approval
Fear/
Insecurities
Discussed on last slide.
Competitiveness
Need to prove we are somebody
Identity tied to winning;
MUST be the best because it defines us
Because no one defined us as a child
No one said –
“You are the best if you never do anything”
(True heart of father God towards you
Before Jesus did anything –
“ This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him”

GRAB HANDOUT – TRUTHS ON FORGIVENESS
- Our earthly father gave us what he had but it wasn’t enough.
BUT…
We are not orphans
We have a loving Heavenly Father
TERMINOLOGY
These three emotional states form a progressive chain of negative emotions:
Offense (The Trigger): This is the immediate sting of a wrongdoing, mistreatment, or betrayal. It can be intentional or unintentional, but it always presents a decision point: whether to process the hurt in a healthy way or dwell on the injustice.
Unforgiveness (The Choice): This is the sustained refusal to release the offender from the “debt” of their wrong. Instead of letting the offense go, you keep a running mental tally of the wrongs and the pain they caused.
Bitterness (The Consequence): If unforgiveness is left unaddressed, it metastasizes (like a cancer) into bitterness. It is a deep-seated, toxic resentment that hardens the heart and can distort how you view life, often making you cynical, critical, or prone to lashing out at others
The offense has happened
Forgiveness is the only way to heal and be free.
It releases us from the source of pain

It’s necessary for our relationship with God.

Mother Wounds
Mothers are meant to nurture, comfort, and teach.
What happens when a mother is negligent, absent, or abusive?
Mothers wounds can cause developmental deficits in love and affection, which often leads to insecurity and a subconscious or desperate search for belonging, comfort, and connection.

Slide 18
How Mother Wounds Impact Daughters
Lack of Confidence – the unloved daughter does not know that she is loveable or worthy of attention:
May have grown up feeling criticized, unheard, unseen, or ignored.
Develops an internal voice of mother telling her that she is ugly, unworthy, dumb/stupid or not good enough.
Lack of Trust – “experienced love as involving obsession, a desire for reciprocation and union, emotional highs and lows, and extreme sexual attraction and jealousy” …distrusts results.

Speaker notes:
Lack of confidence - This becomes the tape in her head that plays over and over.
Lack of Trust – Will often do anything to gain mother’s love even when she is abusive
Seeking comfort anywhere – food, relationships, etc
Men & Women – hypersexualized, struggles with weight
Attempt to fill void that Mother was meant to fill in us.

Slide 19
How Mother Wounds Impact Daughters
Attachment/Attraction Issues
Excessive attachment to women; may manifest as relationally needy or even in same-sex attraction.
Excessive attraction to men; unhealthily dependent, clingy, and/or promiscuous.
Poor Self Image
Manifestation of negative and hurtful things heard and believed when young.

OVER ATTACHMENT TO WOMEN
Again, in an attempt to find love and comfort that we missed from mom
Some Same sex attraction form from this lack
OVER ATTACHMENT TO MEN
Promiscuous
Choose wrong partners
Clingy/ needy
POOR SELF IMAGE
We either stop caring for ourselves
OR
Obsessive about our looks
GOAL
Change the lies that are repeating over and over
Replace it with truth of what God says about us.
MEN
Similar damage
But men mostly get their confidence from other men
But if mother is critical/not encouraging, that also becomes the voice that plays mostly in a man’s mind
[Review slide images, charts, tables, and reading order.]
Slide 20
How Mother Wounds Impact Sons
Lack of Emotional Regulation
Anger – easily set off (0-10), always mad
Hostility – ongoing resentment/striving
Aggression – unable to interact peaceably
Attachment/Attraction Issues
Womanizing, projecting hurt/pain from mother wound into relationships.
Feminization, attempt to please or emulate mother.
Speaker notes:
HOW MOTHER WOUNDS AFFECT SONS
NO COMFORTER
Can lack emotional regulation
If you never felt comforted as a child…..
ANGER
Easily snap and get angry
0-10
May not like tears/ don’t cry
Do not know what to do when people cry around us/ can’t comfort others
OR
no emotional maturity
No clear boundaries around emotions
We easily cry
We easily quit
HOSTILITY
Can be towards women, also men
Just an ache within
AGGRESSION
Unable to talk about or connect to soft side
WOMANIZING
Over attachment to women
Going from woman to woman to woman
Can’t maintain relationship
Don’t treat women well – Projecting mother wound into relationships
OR
overly sweet and over kill in relationships hoping she can replace his absent mother = the Baby Boy Syndrome
BECOMING OVERLY FEMININE
Subconscious attempt to please Mom or be like Mom who was never around
So, if you are
NOT NURTURED?
Can become a not very nurturing parent or friend
Can present as hard; no warmth
Don’t like hugs and kisses
Don’t know how to connect with people
OR
We can be super nurturing
Extremely clingy; needy of physical attention
Hypersexualized
NO TEACHER?
No clear direction
Struggle with decision making
Kinda up and down
No clear approach to life

DEALING WITH SINFUL RESPONSES TO FATHER/MOTHER WOUNDS
The effects and impacts of parental wounding are often made worse by the sinful responses of a son/daughter.
In addition to asking Jesus to heal the wound, one must also take responsibility for any sinful response:
Repentance – John 5:14, 8:11
Releasing Bitterness – Hebrews 12:15
Extending Forgiveness – Matthew 6:12, 14-15; 11:25-26
Speaker notes:
Once we have forgiven and released, we MUST come out of agreement with the sinful responses…….
We come out of agreement by
Judging them as sinful
Repenting
John 5:14 – Jesus told the man at the pool of Bethesda to “go and sin no more” after he had healed him of a 38 year infirmity.
John 8:11 – Jesus told the woman caught in adultery (overly attracted to a man) to go and sin no more after rescuing her from death and forgiving her of her sins.
Hebrews 12:15 – Believers are admonished to be diligent (attentive, to look carefully) to avoid falling short of the grace of God by allowing roots of bitterness (hurt, pain mixed with and festered by anger/judgment) from wounds to grow up and trouble them…that is producing more pain, sorrow, and works of the devil.
Matthew 6:12, 14-15 – Jesus gave us a pattern of prayer that included seeking the Father for forgiveness and also releasing forgiveness to others…”forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” we must release those who have hurt us, from owing us anything (Why? Cause Jesus paid it all).
Matthew 11:25-26 – When we forgive others, we are in alignment to FULLY receive the mercy, grace, goodness, and blessings of our Heavenly Father. When we harbor unforgiveness, we limit ourselves in receiving what God wants to give and do in our lives.

Speaker notes:
The life of Joseph is a phenomenal testament to the grace of God to forgive under the most severe wounding, betrayal, and injustice.
Joseph family of origin, depicted in the book of Genesis, is a microcosm of wounding, hurt, and pain.
Jacob, Joseph’s father, was a twin who was wounded by FAVORITISM of his parents (25:28); unfortunately the generational effects of this passed through him and into his marriage (29:30-31) and parenting (37:3)…although the God eventually delivered him and healed his identity (32:24-30).
Nearly every person in the Joseph’s family suffered parental wounding:
His mother and stepmother/aunt, Rachel and Leah, were both wounded by their father Laban (31:19) and found themselves in fierce competition for the love and affection of the same man (30:14-16); their relationship was rife with envy (30:1) and wrestling (30:8).
Joseph’s brothers and sister were caught in the crossfires of competition, manipulation, and favoritism and received deep parental wounds that affected them for the majority of their adult lives, producing a multitude of sinful responses:
Rueben – disrespected his father and promiscuous (35:22), eventually cursed as “less than” and bound to defeat (49:3-4)
Simeon/Levi – full of hostility and murder (34:13,25-31), treachery, and betrayal (49:5-7)
Judah – womanizer, promiscuous, iniquitous (29:35; 38:1-2; 14-21, 24-26, 44:16)
10 half-brothers – hatred (37:4-5), envy (37:11), conspiracy (37:18), treachery, murder (37:20), slave trafficking (37:26-28), lying/deceit (37:32-35).
Dinah – insecure, vulnerable, unwise in search for connection/friendship (34:1-2)
Joseph/Benjamin – wounded by the death of their mother (35:6-19), the manipulation/favoritism of their father (37:2,14; 42:2; 44:20), and hatred of their brothers.
Joseph is one of the few characters in the Bible that we do not have a clear record of personal sin in his story [although we often infer that he was prideful, arrogant (37:2, 5, 9, and acquiesced to the Egyptian cultural practice of divination (44:15)]. Joseph suffered significant wounding and had a number of hurtful/harmful deeds sown into his life that could have sprung up as seeds of bitterness, defiling him and causing Him (and others) to miss out on fulfilling his purpose and assignment.
Wounds and seeds intending to become roots of bitterness came from:
Jacob, his father – favoritism, manipulation
Rachel, his mother – abandonment, she died when he was young
His brothers – hatred, mistreatment, jealousy/envy, strife, abuse
God (in his own mind) – giving him dreams and failing to fulfill them (possibly determined/felt in the midst of his trials)
Potipher/Mrs. Potipher – forced enslavement, temptation and false accusation
Prison mates / Pharoah’s servants – forgetting, abandoning him in prison for an extended time
Despite all of these opportunities to remain hurt, offended, or be defiled—Joseph overcame by the grace of God, was healed of His hurts, transformed through his pain such that his prophetic gift/grace/administration was pressed into service without insecurity, malice, or self-preservation; and recognized the overarching good and merciful intentions of God in his horrific situation:
Eph 4:26 KJV - 26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
Gen 41:16 KJV - 16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, [It is] not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
Gen 50:15-21 KJV - 15 And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him. 16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying, 17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him. 18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we [be] thy servants. 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for [am] I in the place of God? 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; [but] God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as [it is] this day, to save much people alive. 21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.
Psalms 105:17, 19 “He sent a man before them, Jospeh, who was sold for a servant…until the time that his word came: the word of the Lord tried him”.
JOSEPH FORGAVE AND RELEASED HIS BROTHERS FROM ALL THE WRONG AND SIN THEY COMMITTED AGAINST HIM…HE WAS FREE TO LOVE THEM AND BE ALL THAT GOD CALLED HIM TO BE. – He truly could have said to God, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do” Luke 23:34

FORGIVENESS IS CRITICAL
Forgiveness is not optional; as a child of God YOU NEED to forgive others.
It is in the nature and redemptive plan of God to forgive humanity. (Ps 86:5; Ps 103:2-4; Jer 31:34)
As an act of faith and in accordance with the principals of sowing and reaping, God’s children are to continually practice forgiving others (Hos 10:12; Gal 6:7-10; Mat 18:21-22)
Frees the one extending forgiveness from torment (Mat 18:21-35)
Speaker notes:
Nature of God:
Psa 86:5 KJV - 5 For thou, Lord, [art] good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.
Psa 103:2-4 KJV - 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; 4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
Jer 31:34 KJV - 34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Forgives = Act of Faith, follows the kingdom rule of sowing/reaping, and must be continually practice:
Hos 10:12 KJV - 12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for [it is] time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
Gal 6:7-10 KJV - 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all [men], especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Mat 18:21-22 KJV - 21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
Forgiveness supplies freedom from demonic torment:
Mat 18:21-23, 28-35 KJV - 21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. 23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. … 28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took [him] by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. 29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. 32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: 33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? 34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. 35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

UNDERSTAND FORGIVENESS
Forgiveness is the willful act of releasing those who have sinned against us; in forgiveness we release the individual from owing us anything and free them from being obligated to us in accordance with their sin. (Matthew 6:12, 2 Cor 2:10)
Forgiveness DOES NOT
Justify or excuse sinful behavior (Ezekiel18:20)
Result or require automatic reconciliation of relationship (Numbers 12:9-15)
Dismiss the need for maintaining clear, healthy boundaries when necessary (Amos 3:3)
Speaker notes:
Forgiveness is about releasing debtors (those who legitimately owe you based on debt that they owe…the wages of sin…which no one is ever able to sufficiently repay…which is why Jesus came to pay the price for the sins of the world); in light of His great sacrifice and the salvation He affords, we stand in the wake of His mercy and forgiveness, a pardon we could never acquire or afford…so therefore in the light of his abundance grace, we must extend forgiveness just as Christ did.
Mat 6:12 KJV - 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
2Co 2:10 KJV - 10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I [forgive] also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave [it], for your sakes [forgave I it] in the person of Christ;
Forgiveness is not:
Justify or excuse sinful behavior (Ezekiel18:20, The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.)
Result or require automatic reconciliation of relationship (Numbers 12:9-15, And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed. And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam [became] leprous, [white] as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, [she was] leprous. And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned. Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother’s womb. And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee. And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in [again]. And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in [again].)
Dismiss the need for maintaining clear, healthy boundaries when necessary (Amos 3:3, Can two walk together, except they be agreed?)

God wants me whole”!
He came, endured unspeakable pain, that I may be made whole
Live an abundant life.
INNER HEALING OFTEN REQUIRES:
1. Acknowledge the pain within (stop wearing masks)
2. Identify & judge our behavior patterns (not excuse them)
3. Forgive and release those who have hurt and abused you
4. Ask the Lord to heal your heart and your memories.
MAINTAINANCE
***Important
Healing begins but must be maintained
May need to pray a prayer of forgiveness and release more than once
Recognize triggers for behavior patterns
Break the pattern and walk with Holy Spirit to remove those from your life
4. Find an accountability partner
HANDOUT - INNER HEALING INVENTORY - How do I know if i have a soul wound?
Go through each question honestly with Holy Spirit as your guide.
For the questions you answered positively, ask Holy Spirit what the origin of that is in your heart?
Holy Spirit, what is the root of this? Where did it come from?
Identify other associated emotions or beliefs that you hold.Forgive and release anyone who caused you pain/ wounded you.
Ask the Lord to heal your heart and heal the painful memory from that experience.
If it is an ungodly belief that has been established in you due a lie that you believed, ask Holy Spirit “What is the truth?”
Replace the lie by repeatedly confessing God’s truth over your life.
